The projects’ transport team comprises more that 30 contractors, many from Co. Mayo. Since 2011, they have driven 6,500,000 km and transferred 1.1 million tonnes of construction equipment, building materials, stone, peat, dry cement, tunnel segments, tunnel arisings and bentonite. All of this has been achieved, often in poor driving conditions, without injuries or incidents.
This is the fifth year of the prestigious awards which attracted entries from over 120 Irish companies. Shell was one of seven companies shortlisted for the “Logistics and Transport Team of the Year” Award and fended off strong competition from DHL Global Forwarding, Dulux Paints, BWG Foods and DB Schenker among others.
Finbarr Cleary, President of CILT Ireland told 450 delegates at the ceremony in Dublin: “The Awards identify individuals and organisations within our industry whose performance has been outstanding and who are providing leadership within the Industry.”
The award was accepted by Shell’s Brendan Moyles who paid tribute to all the transport contractors for their unrelenting commitment to safety and high standards of delivery. “This award could not have been won without the commitment and professionalism as well as the determination of all individual drivers to be best in class for road user behaviour”, he said.
