Corrib Gas Partners announce 3rd Level Scholarship Recipients

The Corrib Gas Partners, in conjunction with the Independent Scholarship Board, are pleased to announce the outcome of the 2008/2009 3rd Level Scholarships programme.
Each of the recipients will receive €4,000 per annum for the duration of their third level College course.
A total of fifty-seven applications were submitted and reviewed by the Board over the summer. The ten scholarships for 2008 were awarded to:
Áine Barrett (Our Lady’s Secondary School, Belmullet); Dawn Carey (St Patrick’s College, Lacken-Cross); Daniel Connell (St Brendan’s College, Belmullet); James Coyle (Our Lady’s Secondary School, Belmullet); Victor Doherty (Coláiste Chomáin, Rossport); Jenna Holmes (St Patrick’s, Lacken-Cross); Declan Murphy (St Patrick’s College, Lacken-Cross); Elizabeth O’Malley (Coláiste Chomáin, Rossport); Christopher Reilly (St. Brendan’s College, Belmullet), and Daniel Reilly (Coláiste Chomáin, Rossport).
The Chairman of the Scholarship Board, Mr Seán Staunton, extended the Board’s good wishes to the students and thanked the Corrib Gas Partners for their support for the scholarships scheme.
"It is a significant commitment by the Corrib Gas Partners and it will be a considerable help to families who may face difficulty in meeting the expenses that attendance at 3rd level college can entail," he said.
Mr Staunton also thanked the school principals, staff and all applicants for their participation in the Programme. He went on to say: "The standard of applications was very high and the Board had a difficult job choosing the ten recipients. All of those who applied are to be congratulated for their effort".
Mr Terry Nolan, Managing Director, SEPIL, today congratulated the successful applicants. He said Shell runs scholarship programmes in most countries where they operate and were pleased with the success of the Erris programme.
"We are pleased to note that there has been an increased number of applications this year," said Mr Nolan.
He paid tribute to the members of the Independent Scholarship Board, Sean Staunton, Mrs Breda Holmes, Fr Kevin Hegarty, Ian McAndrew and Tony McGarry, for the interest, experience and commitment they brought to the selection process.
There are now twenty students holding Corrib Natural Gas Scholarships in third level institutions around the country and they will be invited to the second annual awards ceremony which is set to he held in Erris in the New Year.
