Retrieval of Section of Solitaire

19/09/2008

A diving support vessel, the Bibby Topaz, arrived this morning (Friday 19th September) in Broadhaven Bay to assist in the salvage of the 12 metre long, 50 ton section of the Solitaire's pipe laying equipment. The vessel is expected to leave the bay as soon as possible after completing the works.

This piece of equipment, which became detached from the Solitaire last Wednesday (September 10th), is currently lying on the seabed in Broadhaven Bay, Co Mayo and will be lifted and recovered for safety and environmental reasons.

Marine notices have been issued. Shell E&P Ireland Limited (SEPIL) would ask fishing boats and other marine users to stay the required distance from the vessel as detailed in the marine notices. Divers will be working at a pressurised depth of 43 metres and their safety is of utmost importance.
