Sedco 711 drilling rig arrives to complete works on corrib gas field.

08/05/2008

The Corrib Gas Partners can confirm that the Sedco 711 drilling rig arrived at the Corrib Gas Field 83km off the coast of County Mayo to complete preparation of the production wells. At the end of the drilling season five wells will be prepared and ready for production at a later date. The work is anticipated to take approximately five months. This is the third and final year of drilling at the Corrib gas fields. Further works on the installation of the subsea infrastructure will be carried out next year.

The Sedco 711 is a semi-submersible drilling unit capable of operating in harsh environments and water depths up to 1,800 feet. Last November, it completed drilling two more wells at the Corrib Gas Field, 83km off the coast of Co. Mayo, in a water depth of 350 m (1,148 ft), following on from the completion of two wells in 2006.  It will be serviced from Killybegs port and Carrickfinn Airport.

For nearly 30 years, Shell has been a world leader in deep water development and production, achieving production at record depths and developing new subsea systems.

The Corrib Gas Project will directly benefit the local Mayo and Donegal economies by approximately €181m. The national economy will benefit by a contribution of €521m to the Irish GDP.

The Corrib Gas Project is the largest construction project in Ireland with over 600 people currently employed. It will create in excess of 800 jobs during construction and 130 permanent full time jobs in the area thereafter
