Corrib Gas Partners fund upgrade of the fisheries at Glenamoy River

26/11/2007

The Corrib Gas Partners have today announced a further investment in the local community in advance of the establishment of an Independent Fund in 2008. The Corrib Gas Partners, together with the Glenamoy Community Angling Association and the North Western Regional Fisheries Board, are supporting the upgrade of the fishery at Glenamoy. The Corrib Gas Partners have made a contribution of €130,000 towards this project.

The work on the river is being carried out under the auspices of the North Western Regional Fisheries Board and includes the conservation, protection, development and marketing of the fishery at Glenamoy River. The Corrib Gas Partners believe that this work will bring benefits to a good many people and to the community as a whole by increasing the length of the angling season and by significantly upgrading the quality of sections of the river.

The Corrib Gas Partners are committed to increasing the benefits of the project to the local community and today’s announcement is further evidence of this. In May 2007 a scholarship programme for secondary school students from four schools in Erris was set up. In addition to this a one off investment in Belmullet GAA was announced in September 2007. The Corrib Gas Partners also operate a local grants programme that funds projects and voluntary organisations up to €10,000. This programme is now in its third year and in 2007 alone there were over 40 applications, more than in any previous year, from local sports groups and voluntary organisations.

Today’s announcement brings the total local community investment to over €450,000 for 2007.

Speaking today, Mr. Terry Nolan, Deputy Managing Director Shell E&P Ireland Limited said "We are proud to be associated with the Glenamoy Community Angling Association and the North West Regional Fisheries Board as well as the many other sports clubs and voluntary organisations that we support. I believe that the project being undertaken at the Glenamoy river will bring great benefits to many people in the community and I am delighted that the Corrib Gas Partners can be a part of this initiative".

Mr. Nolan went on to say "I look forward to the establishment of an Independent Investment Fund in 2008 which will, in the future, be the primary mechanism for the Corrib project to deliver social investment to the local community. As a company that will be operating in the area for the next 15 - 20 years we look forward to continuing to contribute to the many local initiatives that come about as a result of much hard work by voluntary organisations and individuals".
