Corrib Gas Partners announce 3rd Level Scholarship Programme winners

The Corrib Gas Partners, in conjunction with the Independent Scholarship Board, are pleased to announce the outcome of the 2007/2008 3rd Level Scholarships programme. Each of the recipients will receive €4,000 per annum for the duration of their third level College course. A total of twenty-eight applications were submitted and were reviewed by the Board over the summer.

Further scholarship added

At the request of the Scholarship Board, the Corrib Gas Partners, agreed to add a further scholarship to the ten that were set out for the academic year 2007/2008.

The eleven 3rd level scholarship recipients for 2007 are:


Leiona Burke, (Coláiste Chomáin, Rossport); Michael Patrick Gaughan (Our Lady’s Secondary School, Belmullet); Raymond Keane (Our Lady’s Secondary School, Belmullet); Avril McDonnell (St. Patrick’s College, Lacken Cross); Vincent McDonnell (St. Brendan’s College, Belmullet); Marina McHale (St. Patrick’s College, Lacken Cross); Michael Monaghan (Our Lady’s Secondary School, Belmullet); Lorna Ní Aindríus (Coláiste Chomáin, Rossport); Damien Reilly (St. Brendan’s College, Belmullet); John Reilly (Our Lady’s Secondary School, Belmullet); Lorraine Togher (St. Brendan’s College, Belmullet).

Mr Terry Nolan, Deputy Managing Director for SEPIL said today "Scholarship programmes are in place in many countries where Shell operates and we are delighted to have extended this programme to Mayo. We were very impressed with the response to the programme and hope to build on this over the coming years"

He went on to say "I want to thank the members of the Independent Scholarship Board for all of their work over the past months. They brought great experience and dedication to their task."

The Chairman of the Independent Scholarship Board, Mr Seán Staunton, expressed the board’s good wishes to the students and thanked the Corrib Gas Partners for their foresight in introducing the scholarships scheme. "Over the three/four years of the 3rd Level Programme the Partners have committed in the region of €500,000. It is a significant investment and will help families overcome the financial difficulties that are often faced during third level education," said Mr Staunton.

Mr Staunton also thanked the school principals, staff and all applicants for their participation in the Programme. He went on to say, "The standard of applications was exceptionally high and it was a very difficult job choosing the winners - all of those who applied are to be congratulated for their effort".

A review of the programme is currently underway Details of the 2008/2009 programme, as well as application forms, will be available early in the new-year.
