Corrib Gas Partners Announce Completion of 2007 Drilling Activity on Corrib Field
02/11/2007
The Corrib Gas Partners have today announced the completion of the 2007 drilling season at the Corrib gas field. The Corrib Gas Partners recommenced drilling activities in the gas field, 83km off the west coast of Ireland, in March 2007. During the 2006 season two wells were completed. In 2007 two further wells were drilled. In addition to this "Christmas trees" (control valves placed at the well-head) were installed on a number of the wells.
The Sedco 711 drilling rig, employed in the Corrib gas field, has now left Irish waters. It will return to the Corrib field in 2008 to undertake further well activity. The Sedco 711 is a semi submersible drilling unit capable of operating in harsh environments and water depths of up to 550m. The Corrib field is in 350m of water with the gas reservoir a further 3000m below the seabed.
Separately, Shell E&P Ireland Limited (SEPIL) have today announced that they expect to start exploration drilling in the Rockall basin in the first half of 2008. The Rockall basin lies approximately 130km north west of the Donegal coast. This exploration drilling is a follow up to the Dooish activity in 2002. This work relates to SEPIL’s licence 2/94 operated by SEPIL on behalf of SEPIL (50%), Eni (40%) and OMV (10%). This work will be carried out by the drilling rig the Leiv Eiriksson. Notification of this planned activity has been posted on the website of the Irish Offshore Operators Association (IOOA) as required. Further details relating to these exploration activities will be published as preparations get underway in the new-year.
