The Executive Vice President of Shell Exploration & Production Europe, Mr.Tom Botts visited the Bellanaboy gas processing terminal in North Mayo yesterday to review construction progress at first hand. Mr Botts spent much of the day meeting site managers and local contractors.
“I am delighted with the excellent progress that the project has achieved since I visited last year”, said Mr Botts. “There is a fantastic buzz on site and a palpable sense of pride among the team for what they are achieving at Bellanaboy. Many of the people I met there are locals who have worked throughout Ireland and abroad and are happy now to have jobs on their doorsteps” he said.
Mr Botts used the occasion to emphasise the importance of safety at the biggest construction site in Ireland. He commended those who had been involved in the peat haulage operation from April to June this year and said that he was particularly impressed with the excellent safety record achieved by the teamwork of Roadbridge, Iggy Madden Transport and Bord Na Mona staff during the removal of half a million tonnes of peat.
Mr Botts acknowledged the wide consultation being undertaken by RPS as part of the process for securing an alternative onshore pipeline route and confirmed his hope that an application for consent for an alternative route would be submitted by the end of the year.
