SEPIL Environmental Advisor completes evidence

17/04/2007

Agnes McLaverty, Environmental Advisor to the Corrib Project has completed her evidence to the EPA Oral Hearing being held in Belmullet. The Environmental Protection Agency is conducting an Oral Hearing into the granting of an Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) License for the Bellanaboy Terminal.

In her evidence Ms McLaverty addressed issues such as air quality, noise levels, water run-off and concerns about the treated waste water from gas processing.

Responding to concerns raised by the Erris Inshore Fisherman's Association, Ms McLaverty stated that the Best Available Technique (BAT) to deal with water produced from gas processing is the treatment of this water at the Bellanaboy site, to environmental quality standard level, in combination with coastal (at sea) discharge.

She confirmed that the overall objective for water discharged from Bellanaboy is that it should cause zero harm to the environment. She stated that there would be a high degree of treatment of all water before it was discharged.

The hearing continues.
