Corrib Gas Partners welcome opening of Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Oral Hearing

16/04/2007

The Corrib Gas Partners welcome the EPA’s oral hearing into the application for an Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) Licence for the Bellanaboy Bridge Gas Terminal, which opened today in Belmullet. This hearing provides an open and transparent forum in which all parties can raise issues or concerns they have in relation to the Corrib gas terminal.

There has been a large amount of information in the public domain in relation to the Corrib gas terminal and very often the facts have been misrepresented.  The Corrib Gas Partners are confident that when the facts are laid out, it will be clear that the terminal will operate to the highest safety standards and will not compromise the health, safety or well being of the local communities, staff, or contractors who live and work in the locality.  Nor will it have any adverse impact on the local environment.

In January 2007 the EPA made a proposed determination to grant the IPPC Licence and confirmed that emissions from the gas terminal, “will not adversely affect human health or the environment and will meet all relevant national and EU standards”, when operated in accordance with the conditions of the proposed determination.
