Contractors appointed for Bellanaboy Bridge Gas Terminal

Shell E&P Ireland Ltd, on behalf of the Corrib Gas Partners, is pleased to announce today (28th August 2006) the award of five letters of intent for contracts, to Irish contractors, to the value of €76 million for the construction of the Bellanaboy Bridge Gas Terminal for the Corrib Gas Field Development Project. The contracts will cover civil works, structural steel works, mechanical engineering works, and electrical and instrumentation
Mr Terry Nolan, Deputy Managing Director of Shell E&P Ireland said: "Following the appointment of PM Group as the Construction Management Contractor last year, we are delighted to announce the letters of intent to Irish companies. The tender process was intensely competitive and demonstrated the excellent capability of Irish construction companies."
"The eventual contracts to Irish companies will not only benefit the Irish economy generally but will also have significant benefits for the western region and the Erris area," Mr Nolan continued. "It is a specific focus of each contract that local spend be maximised in all possible areas including the sourcing of supplies and the hiring of labour.
This will result in a very significant spend of €76 million, including an investment of €10 million in Erris, and over €14 million in Mayo. This reinforces Shell E&P Ireland’s commitment to maximizing the benefits that the Corrib Gas Field Development Project will bring to the local community.
Mercury Engineering has been appointed as the contractor for the mechanical works for the process areas and for the off-site and utilities areas. The scope of work includes piping and equipment installation.
Mercury Engineering has also been appointed as contracter for the electrical and instrumentation package for the terminal. This contract includes the installation of all electrical and instrumentation systems and equipment to control the Bellanaboy facility.
Roadbridge Ltd has been appointed as the contractor for the civil works and foundations package contract on the project. This contract will involve the preparation and clearance of the Bellanaboy site for the construction of the terminal including the laying of foundations, the construction of a new access road to the site for construction traffic, and general civil works including drainage works.
SIAC Butler Steel Ltd has been appointed as the contractor for the for the structural steel work for the terminal building.
In advance of commencement of the proposed contracts, work will soon commence on some necessary preliminary works including the expansion of the drainage system and water treatment unit. This work is necessary to allow for the good management of the increased water run-off in autumn and winter.
