Shell E&P Ireland (SEPIL) welcomes the publication of mediator’s report
28/07/2006
SEPIL has today welcomed the publication of Mr Peter Cassells’ report outlining a possible way forward on the Corrib Gas Project.
The company is pleased that the report finds that a clear majority of people in Rossport, the wider Erris area and Co. Mayo are in favour of the project. Throughout the mediation process, SEPIL consistently offered to discuss and address the safety issues raised by the main objectors. Furthermore the company was willing, in the context of face to face discussions, to consider a number of pipeline route alternatives and is still prepared to do so.
SEPIL has always believed that dialogue is the best way to resolve the outstanding issues.
Commenting on today’s report Andy Pyle Managing Director of SEPIL said, “I welcome the publication of today’s report as providing the ingredients of the way forward. The project will bring many benefits, including security of energy supply to Ireland and significant employment to Erris. SEPIL together with our partners in the Corrib gas project, Statoil and Marathon, are fully committed to delivering this project in partnership with the local community.”
He went on to say, “Today’s report is detailed and thorough and contains a number of recommendations that we need to consider before responding in full. The Corrib gas partners will respond positively and in full to the mediator’s report in due course.”
