Statement re Court Proceedings 7th April 2006

07/04/2006

Shell E&P Ireland Limited (SEPIL) has today welcomed the ruling by the President of the High Court, Mr Justice Finnegan, relating to issues around the lifting of the temporary injunction obtained by SEPIL last summer.

SEPIL is reviewing the President’s written ruling and will give careful consideration to the issue of costs.

Commenting on today’s High Court ruling Mr Andy Pyle, Managing Director of SEPIL, said "Now that the legal issues surrounding lifting of the temporary injunction have been concluded, I hope that we can all now move forward and that SEPIL can enter into a meaningful dialogue with the five objectors. We are fully committed to the mediation process being led by Mr Peter Cassells. We look forward to face to face discussions which will allow both sides to negotiate a sustainable solution to the current impasse."

"In this regard, SEPIL believes that it would be helpful for the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources to publish at the earliest possible juncture the findings of the independent safety review completed by Advantica. The timely publication of the Advantica review will allow the issues and genuine safety concerns of the local community relating to the onshore pipeline to be addressed in a conclusive manner."

"Safety is SEPIL’s first priority and today we again reaffirm our commitment to fully implement the recommendations contained in Advantica’s draft Independent Safety Review which was published before Christmas," said Mr Pyle.
