Donegal Mountain Rescue Team
Shell services its offshore operations out of Killybegs and has a long standing association with the mountain rescue team. The voluntary service costs over €50,000 a year to run and appropriate clothing and rescue gear is a constant drain on the Team’s resources.
DMRT gets funding from Donegal County Council, Letterkenny Town Council and the Irish Coastguard. However this falls far short of what is required to run a service on a 24/7 year round basis and the Team has to rely on sponsors and fundraising to keep their operations up and running.
“Good outdoor gear is expensive and it has to be replaced on a regular basis,” said Brian Murray. “We very much appreciate this support from Shell as it eases the pressure on our fundraisers.”
DMRT is one of the busiest mountain rescue teams in the country and as well as regularly taking part in rescues within the county has also been called in to assist in other counties.
