Corrib project celebrates 4,000,000 hours and two years safely worked

A significant double milestone in the safety record of the Corrib gas project was marked last week, as Shell staff and contractors celebrated 4,000,000 hours and two years worked without any time off due to incident or injury.

The four million hours mark was achieved on July 12, at the same time as the project achieved two years without a lost time incident (LTI).

Hundreds of workers across the four Mayo construction sites took time out from their work to join the celebration. The milestone was also marked in the company’s Dublin office.

At the Bellanaboy Terminal, workers were congratulated by Shell E&P Ireland Limited managing director, Michael Crothers, who said: “This significant achievement is a direct result of the combined efforts of all our staff and contractors to work safely every day. Maintaining that continuous focus on safety requires great concentration, and for that dedication I wish to personally thank you all.

“Four million hours worked lost time injury free is a high standard of performance in Ireland and your efforts are very much appreciated by me and Shell’s Leadership Team.”

He appealed to the workforce to maintain their focus on safety. “We can never relent in our daily pursuit of Goal Zero – zero injuries,” he said.
